Why Dristi Works
Eye strain and dryness are signs of aggravated Pitta and Vata. Dristi nourishes the eyes at the root — not just the surface.

What Is the Ayurvedic Treatment of Eyes?
Ayurveda has a dedicated branch for the eyes, ears, nose and throat called Shalakya Tantra. Within it, the classical texts describe a group of local eye therapies known as Netra Kriyakalpa. These include Tarpana (holding medicated ghee over the eyes), Seka or Dhara (pouring a medicated liquid over the eyes), Bidalaka (applying a herbal paste around the eyes) and several others. Each one is chosen according to the dosha involved and the condition of the eyes, which is why no two plans for ayurvedic treatment of eyes are exactly alike.
In simple terms, the ayurvedic treatment of eyes works on the eyes directly, with warm ghee, herbal liquids and pastes, and on the whole body through massage, rest, diet and daily routine. The aim of an ayurvedic treatment of eyes is to nourish the eye tissues, calm excess heat and dryness, and help the eyes feel comfortable and rested again.
Dristi is our structured version of this classical approach. Instead of a single therapy, it combines four therapies in one session so that the eyes are nourished, cleansed, cooled and relaxed together. Every Dristi plan starts with a doctor consultation, so the ayurvedic treatment of eyes you receive is matched to your own eyes, screen habits and constitution.
How Ayurvedic Treatment of Eyes Works: Pitta, Vata and Alochaka Pitta
Ayurveda sees the eyes as the seat of fire in the body. The sub-type of Pitta that governs sight is called Alochaka Pitta. When Pitta is balanced, the eyes feel bright, cool and comfortable. When it is aggravated, by long screen hours, heat, late nights, spicy food or stress, the eyes may start to burn, redden and tire easily.
Vata brings dryness and movement, and it is the second dosha that the ayurvedic treatment of eyes has to balance. Air-conditioned rooms, constant screen focus, travel and irregular sleep all increase Vata, which is why many people notice dry, gritty or tired eyes by the end of the day.
A good ayurvedic treatment of eyes therefore does three things:
- Cools and calms Pitta with soothing herbal liquids and pastes.
- Nourishes and lubricates the eyes to counter Vata dryness, mainly through medicated ghee.
- Relaxes the nervous system so the eyes can rest deeply, which is where foot massage and quiet rest come in.
Dristi is designed to cover all three in a single session, which is why we describe this ayurvedic treatment of eyes as nourishment at the root rather than surface relief alone.

Therapies Used in Dristi
Netra Tarpan
The most nourishing of all eye therapies — dough rings are placed around the eyes and filled with warm medicated ghee. The eyes are bathed in liquid gold, deeply nourishing the eye tissues, relieving dryness, reducing strain, and restoring clarity.
Netra Dhara
A continuous gentle stream of medicated herbal water or decoction poured over the open eyes from a small vessel. Cleanses and refreshes the eyes, reduces redness and burning, removes toxins from the eye surface, and brightens vision.
Netra Lepan
A cooling Ayurvedic herbal paste applied around the eyes and eyelids. Reduces dark circles, puffiness, and under-eye discolouration while pacifying the excess Pitta that causes eye inflammation and sensitivity.
Padabhyanga
An Ayurvedic foot massage with warm medicated oils. The feet contain marma points directly connected to the eyes — stimulating these points grounds the nervous system, reduces eye strain, and promotes the deep rest essential for eye recovery.
Your Dristi Session: An Ayurvedic Eye Rejuvenation Therapy, Step by Step
Here is what a typical Dristi ayurvedic treatment of eyes looks like at our Mumbai centres. The exact plan is always set by your doctor.
1. Free doctor consultation
Your doctor asks about your screen time, sleep, work, eye symptoms, glasses or contact lenses, and any eye treatment or medicines you already use. This is where the doctor decides whether Dristi is right for you.
2. Preparation
You remove contact lenses and eye make-up and settle into a quiet, dimly lit therapy room prepared for the ayurvedic treatment of eyes. The therapist explains each step before starting.
3. The four therapies (about 90 minutes)
Your therapist takes you through Netra Tarpan, Netra Dhara, Netra Lepan and Padabhyanga in the sequence your doctor advises. You can close and open your eyes gently during Netra Tarpan, and you can ask the therapist to pause at any time.
4. Steam, shower and rest (about 30 minutes)
The session ends with 15 minutes of steam and shower, followed by 15 minutes of rest in a darkened room so the eyes can settle.
5. Guidance to take home
Before you leave, you receive simple eye-care and lifestyle advice to help you keep the benefits of your ayurvedic treatment of eyes between sessions.

When Dristi May Not Be Suitable
Dristi is a gentle therapy, but it is not right for every eye condition. Our doctors usually do not advise it, or postpone it, if you:
- have an active eye infection, conjunctivitis or a stye
- have had eye surgery recently, such as cataract or LASIK surgery, unless your eye surgeon has cleared you
- have an eye injury, severe pain or sudden changes in vision
- have a fever or feel unwell on the day of the session
Sudden or severe eye symptoms need an eye specialist first, before any ayurvedic treatment of eyes. Our ayurvedic treatment of eyes is meant to be taken alongside your regular eye check-ups and prescribed care, not in place of them.
What You’ll Feel
Netra Tarpana Benefits – Why Dristi Works
👁️
Relieves Digital Eye Strain
Netra Tarpan and Netra Dhara deeply soothe eyes fatigued by prolonged screen exposure, helping relieve burning, aching, and heaviness.
💧
Reduces Dryness & Irritation
Warm medicated ghee in Netra Tarpan lubricates the eye surface naturally, providing lasting relief from chronic dry eyes and contact lens irritation.
🌑
Reduces Dark Circles & Puffiness
Netra Lepan’s cooling herbal paste directly addresses the Pitta and poor circulation root cause of dark circles and under-eye puffiness.
✨
Brightens & Clarifies Vision
Netra Dhara cleanses the eye surface of accumulated toxins and Pitta residue, improving visual clarity and the natural brightness of the eyes.
🧠
Calms the Nervous System
Padabhyanga activates marma points on the feet directly connected to the eyes and brain — grounding the nervous system and reducing eye-related anxiety.
🌿
Supports Long-Term Eye Health
Regular Dristi sessions are designed to nourish the eyes and surrounding tissues as part of a preventive eye-care routine, helping you maintain comfortable, healthy eyes over time.
Daily Eye Care Tips Alongside Your Ayurvedic Treatment of Eyes
The benefits of any ayurvedic treatment of eyes last longer when your daily routine supports them. Our doctors often suggest:
- Follow the 20-20-20 habit. Every 20 minutes of screen work, look at something about 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
- Blink and palm. Blink fully and often, and rest warm palms gently over closed eyes for a minute a few times a day.
- Wind down the screens. Keep phones and laptops away for the last hour before sleep, and aim for regular sleep and wake times.
- Massage the feet at night. A few minutes of warm oil on the soles of the feet before bed is a simple home form of Padabhyanga.
- Eat for cool, nourished eyes. Include ghee in moderation, seasonal fruits, leafy greens and amla, and cut down on very spicy, fried and fermented food.
- Protect your eyes outdoors. Wear sunglasses in strong sun and avoid dust and direct cold wind on the eyes.
Your doctor will personalise these tips at the consultation, so they fit your routine and your ayurvedic treatment of eyes plan.
After Your Dristi Session
Plan to take it easy for the rest of the day, because the eyes keep absorbing the ghee for some hours. For the best experience after your ayurvedic treatment of eyes:
- Keep contact lenses out for at least 4–6 hours and wear glasses instead.
- Avoid screens, bright lights and driving for a while if your vision feels slightly blurred from the ghee.
- Avoid dust, smoke, direct wind and very cold water on the eyes for the rest of the day.
- Sleep on time that night so the eyes can rest fully.
A slight blur or oily feeling after Netra Tarpan is normal and usually settles within a short time. If anything feels unusual, contact your centre.
Dristi and Your Regular Eye Care
Dristi is a nourishment and relaxation therapy. Like any ayurvedic treatment of eyes, it does not replace your eye specialist, your glasses or any eye drops you have been prescribed. We recommend regular eye check-ups, and we encourage you to share your eye history and reports with our doctor at the consultation.
Many people use Dristi as a monthly or seasonal ayurvedic treatment of eyes to counter screen fatigue, while continuing their usual eye care. Your doctor will tell you how often a session is useful for you, and whether an ayurvedic eye treatment course or an occasional session suits you better.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Dristi is a 2-hour HH Signature Treatment that includes Netra Tarpan (medicated ghee eye bath), Netra Dhara (herbal eye wash), Netra Lepan (cooling eye paste), and Padabhyanga (foot massage with eye marma point activation). Followed by 15 minutes of rest in a darkened room.
Yes, when it is done correctly. Netra Tarpan uses specially prepared medicated ghee (not cooking ghee) that has been purified and processed with specific herbs for eye use. This is a classical Ayurvedic therapy practised for thousands of years. It is performed by trained therapists under doctor supervision, and your doctor checks that it is suitable for your eyes first.
Dristi is a nourishment and relaxation therapy, not a treatment to correct spectacle power. It is designed to ease eye strain and support comfortable, clear-feeling vision, especially when combined with lifestyle changes and diet guidance. Please continue your regular eye check-ups and prescribed care.
Many people feel relief from digital eye strain after a single session. For chronic dry eyes, dark circles, or preventive eye care, we recommend a course of 4–7 sessions over 3–4 weeks. Our therapists will advise a personalised plan during your free consultation.
Dristi is priced at ₹6,000/- per session. This includes the full 2-hour treatment with four therapies, post-treatment rest in a darkened room, and premium Ayurvedic medicated ghee and herbal preparations. Book a free consultation to get a personalised plan.
Please remove contact lenses before the session and do not wear them for at least 4–6 hours after Netra Tarpan. The medicated ghee needs time to fully absorb and nourish the eye surface. We recommend wearing glasses on the day of your Dristi session.
No. Netra Tarpan is one of the four therapies inside Dristi. Dristi also includes Netra Dhara, Netra Lepan and Padabhyanga, followed by steam and rest, in one 2-hour session. If you only want Netra Tarpan, you can book it on its own.
Dristi is usually postponed if you have an active eye infection, recent eye surgery, an eye injury, or a fever on the day. Your doctor checks this at the consultation before any ayurvedic treatment of eyes begins.
It is best to rest your eyes for the rest of the day after any ayurvedic treatment of eyes. If you must use a screen, keep it short, lower the brightness and take regular breaks.
Dristi is available at all 5 Herbal Hills Wellness Center locations in western Mumbai: Juhu, Goregaon, Kandivali and two centers in Borivali. Book a free consultation at the center nearest to you.
