Ayurvedic Hot Oil Bath for Knee Pain & Joint Health
Janu Basti is a classical Ayurvedic therapy specifically designed for the knee joint. A ring made of black gram dough is placed around the knee, forming a well that is filled with warm, specially selected medicated oil. The oil is retained over the knee for a defined period, allowing its therapeutic properties to penetrate deeply into the joint tissues, cartilage, and surrounding muscles.
According to Ayurveda, knee pain and joint degeneration are primarily caused by aggravated Vata dosha, dryness in the joints, and reduced nourishment to the knee tissues. The warmth and herbal properties of the retained oil improve blood circulation, lubricate the joint, reduce inflammation, and restore natural movement.
It is especially recommended for osteoarthritis, chronic knee pain, post-injury weakness, and age-related joint discomfort.

The Janu Basti Procedure
Our Ayurvedic doctor assesses your knee condition, pain severity, joint history, and dosha balance to select the right medicated oil and customise the duration of the therapy.
The knee region is gently massaged with warm medicated oil to prepare the joint tissues, improve local circulation, and enhance absorption for the main procedure.
A ring made of black gram dough is shaped and positioned around the kneecap to form a leak-proof well. The ring is checked for proper fit and seal before oil is poured.
Warm medicated oil is poured into the dough well over the knee. As the oil cools, it is replaced using cotton gauze and fresh warm oil — maintaining a steady therapeutic temperature throughout the session.
The dough ring is removed at the end of the procedure and the knee is lightly massaged to enhance absorption. The doctor advises on aftercare, follow-up sessions, and any complementary therapies recommended.
