Ayurvedic Hot Sand Potali Therapy for Pain & Joint Relief
Manalakizhi is a classical Ayurvedic Kizhi (potali) therapy where small cloth pouches filled with heated rock salt and sand are rhythmically pressed and massaged over the body. "Manal" means sand in Malayalam, and "Kizhi" means potali or poultice.
The dry heat from the sand penetrates deep into muscles and joints, relieving pain, reducing stiffness, and improving circulation — making it especially effective for conditions involving Vata and Kapha imbalance.

The Manalakizhi Procedure
Our Ayurvedic doctor assesses your pain condition, affected areas, dosha constitution, and health history to select the right herbal sand formulation and customise the treatment approach.
Rock salt and sand are heated together and tied into cloth potalies (Kizhi). The combination of rock salt and sand retains heat effectively and provides deep therapeutic warmth. The potalies are maintained at the correct therapeutic temperature throughout the session.
The hot sand potalies are pressed, patted, and massaged rhythmically over the affected areas in synchronised strokes. The dry heat from the sand deeply penetrates muscles and joints, reducing stiffness, easing pain, and stimulating circulation throughout the session.
After the session, the body is wiped clean and a brief rest is advised. The doctor provides aftercare guidance including dietary recommendations, activity advice, follow-up session scheduling, and any complementary therapies.
